Temirtau

Temirtau ( Kazakh Теміртау - iron mountain, Russian Темиртау ) is an industrial city in Kazakhstan, with around 175 728 inhabitants. It is a satellite city of Karaganda and is located about 180 km southeast of the capital Astana on the river Nura. The administration of the city Temirtau is placed under the settlement Aktau.

History

The city was founded on October 1, 1945 based on the former settlement Samarkandskij.

Sports

In the city the football club Bolat AMT Temirtau is located. In addition, the city is represented by the hockey club HK Arystan Temirtau.

Economy and infrastructure

The city's history is closely connected to the Kazakh Metallurgical Combine, which was built due to the German occupation of the West of the USSR in World War II on 31 December 1944, and now belongs to ArcelorMittal. In addition, there is now also an electro- metallurgical combine in the city. In addition, 1,061 industrial enterprises are located in the city that had produced in 2007, 23 percent of the industrial output of the whole area.

Traffic

Temirtau has 30 general education schools with a capacity of more than 19,000 students and two universities.

SOS Children's Village Temirtau

The unemployment rate in the region around Temirtau is high and the number of orphans and abandoned children in size.

Of the local authorities about seven hectares of land was provided free for the construction of the SOS Children's Village Temirtau available. The official opening ceremony took place in the presence of representatives of SOS Children's Villages International and numerous guests of honor on July 5, 2005.

The SOS Children's Village Temirtau comprises twelve family houses, houses for the SOS aunts (who support the SOS Children 's Village mothers and represent them in case of their absence) and the village director, a multipurpose building, and an administration and service area. Up to 108 children can find in the family houses of the SOS Children's Village Temirtau a new home. As the need for family-like long-term accommodation for children is still high, the construction of two additional family houses is planned for the coming years.
