Tempur-Pedic

Tempur (also TEMPUR ) is registered as a trademark name for a memory foam material. The owner of the trademark is Tempur -Pedic.

The material memory foam ( to German as " memory foam "), a shape memory polymer, was developed in the 1970s by NASA in their research center in California. The aim was to improve the seating comfort and protection against the contact pressure in spacecraft. Any use beyond the space was possible because of the low production only to a limited extent and limited primarily to medical cushions and mattresses for pressure ulcer prevention.

After prolonged and intensive materials and production developments in Denmark, the " space foam " technology was ready for series production in 1991. Since then, Tempur products both for home use as well as in the medical field (hospitals, clinics and nursing homes) are available.

In 1996, the company Tempur-Pedic got the license of the Space Foundation to be able to advertise with the official seal Certified Space Technology. This seal is awarded to products that originate from the U.S. space research or be used in space.
