Temurah (Kabbalah)

Temura (Hebrew תמורה ) is a process of Jewish hermeneutics, among others, as gematria, Zeruph and Notarikon. In addition Temura is the title of a Mischnatraktates from the 5th order Qodashim. There is about the exchange of sacrificial animals.

Word Meaning

The word refers both to the Temura process as well as the result of a " CONVERSION " or a " permutation ". It is derived from the root מור ( mur ), which means something like " replace, change " means.

The procedure

The process is relatively simple. It lays out a complete alphabet in a circle and a second in that circle. Now you can the inner circle around one or more letters twisting and so receive different keys ( atba and the next Aschbath, then Arbasch, etc. etc.) Now you writes the word on which you want to have explained and examined under a key ( the wheel during the procedure may not be rotated. ) corresponding to the individual letters partner out. One has the word virtually encrypted. But the early adopters it was not about cryptography, as we understand it today, but about hermeneutics.

It is also much more complex key. One divides the alphabet in the exact center, writes the first 11 characters on the outer ring, the last 11 in the inner ring and so receives the Atbash, Albat etc. or rotating the direction of the inner alphabet, and so gets the Albam, Atbal etc. etc. In addition, there are many other, more complicated key.

Example

From the words יהוה ( YHWH - GOD ) is, if you continue pushing a letter, so in Atbah, the consonant sequence כוזו Kusu, which once has no meaning, but the numerical value 39 If the Zeruph - the procedure.

The number 39 to write in Hebrew. טל (Valley), a word which, in turn, means " dew " - ie, falling from the sky - bears. After these words the tallit, the prayer shawl of the Jews is called. The 39 now in turn is the sum of 26 and 13 The first number is the integer value of the Tetragrammaton, the Hebrew word for the latter unit אחד after the gematria of the natural numbers.
