Tenakee Springs is a town with 93 inhabitants on Chichagof Iceland in Hoonah Angoon Census Area, in the state of Alaska in the United States of America. The name comes from the Tlingit, meaning " bay of the copper shields " ( tinaghu ), three highly valued shields the Tlingit, who went there lost in a storm. Originally called " Tenakee " the town was renamed in 1928 for its hot springs at Tenakee Springs. The place is now used mainly as a summer residence and recreation.
Geography
The place is in Tenakee Inlet opposite the Kadashan Bay on the east side of the island Chichagof. There are no roads connecting the settlements with other places, he reached only by air or sea. The port Tenakee Springs is one of the ports of the Alaska Marine Highway, according to the United States Census Bureau, the municipality covers an area 49.5 km ², of which 13.8 km ² water surface.
