Tenase

The tenase complex is a composite of a plurality of factors of the secondary hemostasis device ( plasma coagulation ). The tenase complex consists of four factors:

  • Christmas factor ( factor IX),
  • Antihemophilic globulin A ( factor VIII),
  • Phospholipids and
  • Calcium ions

The tenase complex is located on the surface of activated platelets, since the necessary phospholipids are found in the cell membrane. Its mission is ultimately the activation of the Stuart - Prower factor ( factor X), which in turn is part of the prothrombinase complex. Since thrombin is itself directly and indirectly responsible for the activation of the tenase complex as the central hub of the plasmatic coagulation, and this then partially activates the prothrombinase complex, which recently re-activated thrombin, it is a self-reinforcing mechanism.
