Tendai Mtawarira

Tendai "The Beast" Mtawarira (born 1 July 1985 in Harare, Zimbabwe) is a South African rugby union player who plays on the position of the pillar for the South African national team, the province of Natal and in Super Rugby for the Sharks. He acquired because of his explosive style of play quickly the status of an audience favorite.

Career

Mtawarira began at the age of nine with the rugby sport in his home country Zimbabwe. At age 16, he was discovered by the Sharks and included in the Academy. First, he played as a number eight, in 2006 he moved to his current position.

Mtawarira ran in 2007 for the first time on the Sharks in the Super 14 and Currie Cup in. The unusual speed for his position and its strengths in the crowd could become a regular player it quickly. In 2008 he won the Currie Cup with the Sharks. In the same season, he also came to his debut for the South African national team against Wales. A week later he put his first try against Italy.

In 2009, Mtawarira was in the squad in South Africa during the tour of the British and Irish Lions. The Springboks won the series against the Lions 2-1 and also secured the third title in the Tri Nations in the same year.
