Tennessee Walking Horse

The Tennessee Walking Horse is a 19th century bred from Narragansett Pacer and American Standardbred, Morgan, Thoroughbred and American Saddlebred gaited horse.

Background information on the evaluation and breeding horses can be found at: exterior, interior and horse breeding.

Exterior

The exterior of the Tennessee Walker is quite uneven. It is quite possible that they have more of the appearance of a Quarter Horse, while others Walker rather leave the impression of a thoroughbred. Fundamental to this are the predominant bloodlines. In general, the Tennessee Walker are medium sized, elegant and harmonious horses. The head is either straight, sometimes slightly Roman profile and large, the high patch, carried upright neck rather strong and long. A short back with good depth and slightly sloping, muscular croup is as much for appearance as the high-set tail. The Height is 145-173 cm. Many Tennessee Walking Horses have extremely long longhair.

Interior

Walker considered to be very friendly, quiet and intelligent horses, as well as the very people oriented and easy to ride horses.

Gaits

The characteristic and eponymous feature of the breed is the Walk, a Horse's gait, in which it is an accelerated pace. The individual steps are considerably extended, so that the hind auffußen far ahead of the prints of the front feet. The slower Flat Walk reaches a speed of 8-11 miles per hour. The faster running walk reaches 12 to 16 kilometers per hour. Thus, the walk is about as fast as a trot with other horse breeds.
