Titleholder was Nicolás Massú. The final disputed Fernando González and Rafael Nadal, which won Nadal in three sets. This was his first triumph at the Summer Olympic Games, while Gonzales in 2004 was able to win a medal in Athens (then bronze). In the bronze medal match Novak Djokovic won in straight sets against James Blake.
