Tenpai Wangchuk, 8th Panchen Lama

Penchen Tenpe Wangchug ( Tib: pan chen pa'i dbang bstan phyug; well ( Lobsang ) Pelden Chokyi dragpa, Tib: ( blo bzang ) ldan chos kyi nyi grags pa * 1854/1855, † 1882) was fifth in the Title Penchen Lama and is considered as the eighth Penchen Lama of the Gelug tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.

Life

Tenpe Wangchug was the son of Tenzin Wangyel and Trashi Lhamo. He was brought to Trashilhünpo 1857 and recognized as Trülku of Tenpe Nyima. In 1860 he was officially enthroned as Penchen Lama. He received the full ordination 1877. 1878 he gave the 13th Dalai Lama, the " first tonsure ". His literary life's work ( Tib: gsung 'bum ) comprises about three medium-sized volumes.

Tenpe Wangchug died at the age of 27/28 years.
