Tenspeed and Brown Shoe

The sniffer ( Original title: Tenspeed and Brown Shoe ) was an American detective and crime series, which was produced 1979/1980 by Paramount on behalf of ABC. After the pilot episode only twelve more episodes emerged, only nine of which were broadcast in September 1980 by the ARD in Germany.

The series is about the private detectives Early LeRoy Turner ( Ben Vereen ) and Lionel Whitney ( Jeff Goldblum ), an odd couple: Turner is a former con artist on parole, the lanky Whitney draws his knowledge from trivial novels. His hero is the Cheap Detective Mark Savage from the pen of thriller author Stephen J. Cannell (a kind of cameo of series creator ). In the style of the fictional character stumble Whitney and Turner of a mishap to the next and the way to solve charmingly unconventional way their criminal cases.

A style element of the series is the background story when Whitney reads in Mark Savage books:
