Tepoto (South)

Tepoto Sud, also called Ti Poto, is an atoll of the Tuamotu Archipelago in French Polynesia. Tepoto Sud is located away from Makemo Atoll 44 km southwest. The comparatively small atoll has a round shape with a diameter of about 3.8 km and a land area of 0.6 km ². The 2.5 km ² lagoon has a navigable access to the sea in the northeast. The atoll got its additional SUD at it from a remote atoll of the same name 400 km to the north, North Tepoto delineate. Tepoto Sud belongs administratively to the municipality Makemo and there to the borough ( " commune associées " ) Katiu.

Tepoto Sud, together with the atolls Hiti and Tuanake the group of Raevski atolls. Just as on the other two atolls here the Polynesian Ground Dove ( Gallicolumba erythroptera ) and the Tuamotu Reed Warbler is resident (Acrocephalus atyphus ).

The island was sighted by the French explorer Louis Antoine de Bougainville the first time in 1768, but in 1820 entered the first of the Baltic Germans Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen.
