Housing of Terebra dislocata

The screws screw ( Terebridae ) are a family of marine snails exclusively, which is native to the tropical seas. There are almost exclusively predatory forms.

Features

The cases are almost exclusively slim hochkonisch with many turns. The mouth is small and depending on the housing form narrow to broad - oval. The lower edge is hardly drawn out (in contrast to the other families of Conoidea ). You still have a thin operculum on the small foot, the mouth can be closed.

Life, the occurrence and distribution

The types of screw worm hunt buried in the sand marine worms, which are mostly paralyzed with the help of the venom gland. They live exclusively in the warmer seas ( tropics and subtropics ) with emphasis in the Indo -Pacific region.

System

The Terebridae family is from Bouchet and Rocroi is currently 1969 divided into two subfamilies Terebrinae Mörch 1852 Pervicaciinae Rudman, but these are rarely used because the distribution of the genera is very uncertain at this subfamilies.
