Terence Morgan

Terence Morgan ( born December 8, 1921 in Lewisham, London as Terence Ivor Grant Morgan, † 25 August 2005 in Brighton, East Sussex ) was a British actor.

Life

After finishing school, Terence Morgan worked as a clerk at the insurance company Lloyd's and only in his spare time as an actor. That changed when he received a scholarship from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. As a professional actor Morgan has appeared in London's West End to where he was spotted by Laurence Olivier. After working together on the stage Olivier hired him in 1948 for his award-winning film version of Hamlet. Morgan was in his film debut as Laertes. Two years later, he starred in his first television production in a Shakespeare adaptation, as Prince Orsino in Twelfth Night.

In the following years, Morgan played predominantly in British productions. He first took over sympathetic characters, later increasingly dark and abysmal figures such as the vengeful son of Ramesses VIII in the horror film The Revenge of the Pharaoh of the Hammer Film Studios. Among his best known film roles include the 2nd- Lieutenant Gerard in The King's Admiral by Cecil Scott Forester ( with Gregory Peck in the title role), "little" Billy Bagot next Hildegard Knef in Svengali, the ruthless blackmailer in The Shakedown (next to Donald Pleasence ).

In addition, Morgan took over between the 1950s and 1970s, various appearances in TV movies and television series, including the thriller series The Two and the title role in the television series 26teiligen Sir Francis Drake on the eponymous British privateer and admiral of the 16th century.

End of the 60s Morgan began to gradually withdraw from the film business. Shortly thereafter, he opened in Hove near Brighton a small hotel, which he led for 16 years.

Terence Morgan died on 25 August 2005 in Brighton from heart failure.
