Terence T. Henricks

Terence Thomas " Tom" Henricks ( born July 5, 1952 in Bryan, Ohio, USA ) is a former American astronaut.

Training

Henricks received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 1974 from the United States Air Force Academy in 1982 and a Master of Public Administration from Golden Gate University.

Military career

In the United States Air Force Henricks completed his training as a pilot and later as a test pilot. As combat and test pilot, he was stationed in Alabama, Florida, England, Iceland, Nevada and California on a variety of Air Force bases.

Astronauts activity

In June 1986, Henricks was selected by NASA as an astronaut candidate. After his training he checked Shuttle landing sites around the world. He worked as an engineer for the space shuttle program at the Johnson Space Center and the Kennedy Space Center.

STS -44

On November 24, 1991 Henricks began as a pilot of Space Shuttle Atlantis on mission STS - 44th It was a mission for the U.S. Department of Defense. The non-secret payload contained, besides other military experiments, a DSP satellite and its upper stage to carry the satellite into a higher orbit.

STS -55

Henricks second flight led him as a pilot of the space shuttle Columbia into space. The flight is known in Germany as the second German Spacelab mission "D -2". The ten-day flight had to be postponed several times due to various technical problems and could not begin until April 26, 1993. When the mission was first carried an IMAX camera. Also on board were with Ulrich Walter and Hans Schlegel two German astronauts.

STS -70

On 13 July 1995 Henricks started as commander of the space shuttle Discovery for its third mission into space. Main task was exposing the relay satellite TDRS -G.

STS -78

In his fourth deployment Henricks flew on 20 June 1996 as commander of the Space Shuttle Columbia ( STS -78 ) to the hitherto longest flight of a space shuttle (16d 21h 48min ). Task were microgravity experiments in the Life and Microgravity Spacelab (LMS ), which were needed as a basis for future experiments on the International Space Station (ISS).

Terence Henricks is married and has three children.
