Teresa Salgueiro

Maria Teresa Salgueiro de Almeida ( born January 8, 1969 in Amadora ) is a Portuguese singer. She was from 1987 to 2007, the singer of Madredeus.

Life

It was discovered in 1986 as a 17 -year-old from Pedro Ayres Magalhães and band founder Fernando Judice, the longtime bass player of the group, in a small bar in Lisbon. Without musical experience and without vocal training, she coined with her crystal clear voice, the style of Madredeus.

On her published in 2005 Obrigado Sampler can be heard from the years 1991 to 2005 included joint recordings with Madredeus, but also with Angelo Branduardi, Caetano Veloso, Carlos Núñez and José Carreras.

In 2007, she took together with the Septeto João de Cristal on a jazz - oriented album, entitled Você e Eu, on which she presented songs of Brazilian artist Antonio Carlos Jobim, Ary Barroso, Dorival Caymmi and Chico Buarque. 2009, they changed their name into Tereza Salgueiro. The first album under this name appeared in the same year Matriz, which she recorded together with the Lusitânia Ensemble. On this album, she performed at court music and folk music from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. The music of the oldest piece Mi Madre Velida comes from the Spanish King Alfonso X, the text of his grandson, the Portuguese king Dom Dinis. The album reached the top 10 of the Portuguese sales charts, as well as before their albums already Obrigado, Você e Eu and La Serena.

In 2012 she returned to the original spelling of her name Teresa. For the 2012 released album O Misterio she wrote all the lyrics and some of the music, played the piano in the instrumental piece O Início and was co -producer. With its now fixed accompanying quartet ( Carisa Marcelino: accordion, Oscar Daniel Torres: Bass, André Filipe Santos: guitar, Rui Lobato: drums, percussion and guitar) they recorded the album in the monastery Convento da Arrábida to Setúbal in August 2011. Musically, she approached the album in places, again the work of Madredeus, both in composition and arrangement, as well as in her singing.
