Teresina, officially Municipio de Teresina, is the capital of the Brazilian state of Piauí and has 814 230 inhabitants ( as of 2010), the Teresinenser be called.

The city was founded in 1852 and was named in honor of the Empress Teresa Maria Cristina of Naples and Sicily. She was the first capital of Brazil, which was created planned (similar to the current capital Brasília ).

Teresina is located between the two rivers Rio Parnaíba and Poti Rio, near their confluence.

Climate

The climate is tropical in Teresina. The rainy season lasts from mid- December to May, the remainder of the dry season.

Tourism

Teresina has no distinct tourism, which is also due to the remote location in the interior part. The city strives to modern building projects, such increase completed in 2010 Estaiada, their attractiveness, but this is so far only partly succeeded.
