Teressa (Nicobar Islands)

Teressa ( nico barbaric: Luroo ) is an Indian island and belongs to the Nicobar Islands in the Indian Ocean.

It is located west of the neighboring island Camorta and northwest of Katchal. The smaller island Chowra lies north and east Bomboka. In the northern part of the island reaches a height of 250 meters. According to the Indian census of 2001, there were 2043 people on the island, and the largest villages were: Bengali, Kalasi, Minyuk and Aloorang. The island has an area of ​​101.26 km ².

As Austria in 1778 declared some of the Nicobar Islands to the Austrian crown colonies, Teressa was named after the Archduchess Maria Theresia.

In the great tidal waves of the tsunami as a result of severe tsunami in the Indian Ocean in 2004 Teressa was devastated.
