Těrlicko Dam

The reservoir Těrlicko ( Czech vodní nádrž Těrlicko ) is located east of Těrlicko in the Valley of Stonávka in the Czech Republic. It is used for water supply of industrial plants as well as flood protection and recreation.

Geography

The reservoir Těrlicko located in the foothills of the Moravian- Silesian Beskids. His dam is located south of the community Albrechtice. Around the lake there are the villages Dolni Těrlicko, Zadky, Zelené Město, Těrlicko, Osiny, Životice and Pacalůvka.

History

The reservoir was created between 1955-1964 as service water reservoir for the Karviná coal mines and ironworks Třinec. For this purpose, a 770,000 m³ Erdschüttdamm was built in the Karpatenflyschzone, reinforced with gravel, crushed and burnt dump material. Due to the dam located in Stonávkatal villages Horni Těrlicko and Dolni Těrlicko were flooded; the villages were recreated on the crests on both sides of the valley. Mid-1970s was the creek increased water inflow to the reservoir for domestic water supply to the power plant Dětmarovice a water supply canal from the Ropičanka to Černý.
