Ternivka

Terniwka (Ukrainian Тернівка; Russian Терновка / Ternovka ) is a small town in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk Oblast with about 29,000 inhabitants ( June 2012).

Geography

The city is located in the eastern part of the oblast at the confluence of Welyka Terniwka with the Samara 20 km east of Pawlohrad. The city district also includes the village Selena Dolyna counts ( Зелена Долина ) which is located northeast of the city. The distance to Oblastzentrum Dnipropetrovsk is 96 km.

History

The town was founded in 1775 at the behest of the governor of Azov as Sloboda. Freed from the German occupation was the place on 17 September 1943. Developing the city began with the discovery of large coal deposits in the area in 1950., 1959, the first ton of coal was mined in 1964 was with the dismantling of the coal mine Sachidno - started Donbass, in the same year was also the place to urban-type settlement. Since 1976 Terniwka has the status of a city and, since June 9, 1990 Terniwka is a county-level city.
