Teror
Teror is a municipality on the island of Gran Canaria. Teror has 12,761 inhabitants ( 1 January 2013) on an area of 25.70 km ². Due to its location in the northern interior of the island Teror has been spared the excesses of the tourism industry and is now one of the most pristine places on Gran Canaria.
In the church " Nuestra Señora del Pino" is a statue of the Virgin Mary with the child ( Virgen del pino ). According to tradition, this statue should therefore have been found two years before the final conquest of the island by Juan Rejón for the Spanish crown, on a hill in the municipality of Teror in 1481. She is the patron saint of Gran Canaria and, therefore, from mid- August to mid-September celebrations in their honor instead. The highlights are on 7 and 8 September, a pilgrimage to Teror, an offering of gifts and festive Holy Mass.
