Terrasson-Lavilledieu
Terrasson- Lavilledieu is a commune with 6261 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Dordogne in the Aquitaine region.
Geography
Terrasson- Lavilledieu is located about 150 km east of Bordeaux. Through the town flows the Vézère.
History
The place dates back to the founding of a monastery in the 6th century. In the 12th century a stone bridge was built by Benedictine monks of the Vézère. The bridge has been repaired several times and has survived the centuries lives. Today, it is the symbol of Terrasson- Lavilledieu.
After the merger of the former municipalities of La Villedieu and Terrasson in 1963 the community was named Terrasson- la- Villedieu. This was changed by decree of 22 December 1997 in Terrasson -Lavilledieu.
