Terry Lee Collins ( born May 27, 1949 in Midland, Michigan) is an American baseball manager in Major League Baseball. He is currently with the New York Mets in Major League Baseball under contract.

Collins has played as a player never in Major League. Before embarking on the coaching career he was a shortstop in the Minor Leagues.

Career

Collins managed to start the team the Albuquerque Dukes in the Pacific Coast League, the. Buffalo Bisons of the International League and the Duluth Huskies in the Northwoods League

After the Houston Astros in 1993 their manager Art Howe dismissed, Collins took over his position in the MLB team. He led the team until the end of 1996. After the team broke end of the season, he was released.

For season 1997 Collins signed a contract with the Anaheim Angels, with whom he could achieve positive balances in the following two seasons. Both in 1997 and 1998, the team finished in second place in the division. In 1999, Collins announced his contract 29 games left in the season, after he had lost the backing of the players.

After a long period of inactivity Collins wrote in 2006 under a contract with the Orix Buffaloes in the Japanese Pacific League, where he was active until 21 May 2008. The end of his commitment was caused by a 3:7 Inter League defeat against the Hanshin Tigers. At the end of the year Collins took over the Chinese baseball team.

After Collins spent the 2010 season as Field Coordinator for the Mets in the Minor League, he was officially presented on 23 November 2010 as the new manager of the New York Mets. In honor of his mentor Jim Leyland, under which he was active as a coach in the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1992, Collins will wear the jersey number 10.
