Terry Jacks

Terry Jacks ( born March 29, 1944 in Winnipeg, Manitoba ) is a Canadian singer and record producer.

In 1968 he founded with his future wife, Susan Pesklevits ( b. 1948 ), of which he was divorced again in 1973, The Poppy Family, which also broke up in 1973. In 1969, this with Which Way You Goin 'Billy? a No. 1 hit in Canada, a No.2 hit in the U.S. charts. Then Jack worked independently and worked on an album in 1972 with the Beach Boys, for which he proposed an English version of the 1961 created the song Le Mori Bond of Belgian singer Jacques Brel ( 1929-1978 ) and Seasons in the Sun.

In 1963, the copywriter Rod McKuen this translated into English, and the Kingston Trio had recorded it. The title sold not very good and did not manage the jump in the U.S. charts, Jack remained in my memory. After the Beach Boys had refused to take the song into the album, Jack wrote it partly to and published it himself in 1973. Seasons in the Sun made it to the U.S., UK and Canada up to the top of the charts and sold millions of copies worldwide; in the U.S., he was 15 weeks, in Canada 17 weeks on the charts. In the German-speaking area of the song reached both in Germany, in Austria and in Switzerland number 1 in the charts. The album Seasons In The Sun was far less commercially successful, it peaked in the U.S. LP charts only place 81

Seasons in the Sun is the story of the dying young man says goodbye to his neighbor and friends. While McKuen had tried to stay as close to Brel's original, Jack took to McKuens displeasure of some changes in the last verse before ("and everytime did I was down ... ") that the rough seriousness of the original ( "you cheated lots of times but then ... " ) were detrimental, but certainly not to his sales moderate disadvantage.

1973 Jack's met with Jacques Brel together, and this hit another shot before, namely, If You Go Away ( Brel Original: Ne me quitte pas), the English text Rod McKuen had also written, but this was only a minor success in the USA, Great Britain reached the title number 8 in the singles chart. Another hit is no longer allowed him and his version of Rock'n'Roll (I Gave You The Best Years Of My Life) came just a week in the U.S. charts. Thus Terry Jacks Seasons in the Sun is one of the category of one- hit wonder.

Jacks became involved later in Canada and the United States as an activist of the environmental organization Environmental Watch.
