Terry Lightfoot

Terry Lightfoot ( born May 21, 1935 in Potters Bar, back in Middlesex, now in Hertfordshire, England; † March 15, 2013 ) was a British clarinetist (also vocals) and band leader of the Traditional Jazz.

Life and work

Lightfoot, whose younger brother Paddy was known as a banjo player, went to school clarinet. The age of seventeen he headed the Wood Green Stompers and also belonged to the Albemarle jazz band before he had from 1953 to 1955 to do his military service. In 1955 he founded his own Terry Lightfoot 's New Orleans Jazzmen, with whom he a year later the professional scene addressed himself. To his band included musicians such as Alan Elsdon and Ginger Baker. The band has also performed with American guests such as Kid Ory and Red Allen. The resulting combined with Acker Bilk Clarinet Jamboree EP as well as his recording of Cole Porter hits Truelove, with King Kong and Tavern In The Town, he had the early 60s four chart hits in the UK. He left then temporarily the music scene around 1967 to play with Kenny Ball. Then he founded his own band, with which he appeared in the GDR in 1972. After another pause, 1978-1983, where he worked in the hotel industry, he was again active with his own band.
