Terry McAuliffe

Terence Richard " Terry " McAuliffe ( born February 9, 1957 in Syracuse, New York) is an American businessman, politician of the Democratic Party since 2014 and Governor of the U.S. state of Virginia. He was also known as a party fundraiser and former party leader of the Democrats. He was chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 2001 to 2005, was co- director of the re-election campaign of President Bill Clinton in 1996 and 2008, head of the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton. In the gubernatorial election in 2013, he ran against Republican Ken Cuccinelli and the libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis. He hit both with 48 percent of the vote and took office as governor on January 11, 2014.

Life

McAuliffe is the son of a real estate agent Jack McAuliffe, who was incidentally treasurer of the local Democratic Party. He is a descendant of Irish immigrants and a practicing Catholic. He made in 1975 at the Bishop Ludden Junior / Senior High School his high school graduation.

Policy

McAuliffe is applied already in 2009 about becoming the Democratic candidate for election as Governor of Virginia. But in the Primary of his party, it was only 26.4 percent of the vote and second place behind Creigh Deeds, who came up with a share of 49.8 percent. Deeds subsequently defeated by Republican Bob McDonnell.

Four years later, McAuliffe was nominated unopposed by Democrats. In the election in November 2013, he won even without an absolute majority, as the libertarian candidate Sarvis could unite 6.5 percent of the vote.
