Teru teru bozu

Teru teru Bozu (Japanese照る照る坊主, also:てるてる坊主, bills seem Monk) is a Japanese custom, or even titles of story books that have this custom to the object.

Custom

This custom -made little white paper or cloth dolls are made to hang on the eaves etc.. In Japan they say the little dolls after the magical ability to bring good weather for the next day. Is prayer been answered for good weather, " rewards " to the doll by basting it with sake.

Is the doll hung upside down or painted with a face, so this causes the next day rain. In this case one speaks of: Fure fure Bozu (ふれふれ 坊主), Ame ame Bozu (あめあめ 坊主) or similar regional variations.
