Teruo Higa

Teruo Higa (Japanese比 嘉 照 夫Teruo Higa, born December 28, 1941 in Okinawa Prefecture ) is a Japanese professor of horticulture.

Higa was born in the Ryukyu Islands and grew up there. He graduated from Faculty of Agriculture of the State University of the Ryukyus ( Okinawa Prefecture) and his PhD at the Agricultural Research Division of the State Kyushu University. In 1970 he became a lecturer in 1972 and associate professor at the University of Ryukyu. In 1982, he assumed his current professor of Horticulture at the Agricultural Science Faculty of the University of Ryukyu.

He is the discoverer of Effective Microorganisms ( EM) and spends almost half the year abroad to spread in other countries, the EM technology in agriculture and in other fields.

Higa dressed include the following positions:

  • Chairman of the Executive Committee for the International distribution of natural farming
  • President of the Asia- Pacific Natural Agriculture Network ( APNAN )
  • Executive Director of the Foundation for Earth Environment
  • Technical Adviser to the Flower Association in Japan
  • Director of the International Research Centre for natural farming
