History

2010 became the municipality because of the partially forcibly discharged demonstrations against the planned construction of a new landfill in the international headlines. The citizens protested because of possible health hazards and environmental damage. The proposed new facility would have shown a capacity of three million tonnes and should thus be the largest landfill in Europe. On 18 November 2010 the Council of Ministers gave the plans for the construction of the new landfill in Rome. As a reason, the fierce and sometimes violent protests have been specified.
