Test Match

As a Test Match is called in the English language the games selection of teams in the sports of cricket, rugby league and rugby union.

Cricket

The term "test match" or in short " test " was first mentioned in the context of sport in connection with cricket. 1861/62 undertook a private selection of English cricketer a tour of Australia and played it against the selection of teams from the former British colonies in Australia (Victoria, New South Wales, etc.). These games were the first games that were designated as test matches. It is believed that it came to this designation, since these games represented a test of strength and skill of both teams.

On March 15, 1877, first official international match in cricket was played between England and Australia. This game has now the status of the first ever Test match played in cricket as the English selection of 1861/62 was not playing against a gesamtaustralische selection, but only against the individual colonies. About 10 years later, the term began to " Test Match " to designate internationals enforce in cricket.

Today, a Test match in cricket refers to the longest possible form of a cricket game. Test matches are played between national teams with test status, which is awarded by the International Cricket Council. Test Matches last up to five days and are regarded as the ultimate test of strength and endurance.

Rugby League

A Test match in rugby league denotes a match between two representative teams, the member associations of the Rugby League International Federation ( RLIF ) represent. Here there is a difference between test matches and international matches: As countries such games are called games that are played between teams from different countries, regardless of the age of the participants. The first Test match in the Rugby League was played on January 1, 1908 in Aberdare between Wales and the "All Golds ", a selected team of New Zealand and Australian players.

Similarly as in Test cricket should be a test of strength, skill and dexterity, a test match in the Rugby League; Therefore, only those games are referred to as test matches where the strongest possible team is set up. For these so-called games of the respective organizations " test caps " can be awarded to the participating players.

It is for the national associations to recognize games as Test matches. It may well be that one side of a game than Test Match recognizes, however, the opposing side does not. It is also possible to recognize games in hindsight test matches. An example of this practice is the so-called " Super League War" between the Australian Rugby League ( ARL) and the Super League, which is ultimately went to the control of the highest professional league in the Rugby League in Australia and at the end of the National Rugby League was formed (NRL ). 1997 played a selection of players from the Super League five games against New Zealand and the UK. These games are still not recognized by the ARL as test matches ( NZRL ) have awarded these games from New Zealand 's status as Test matches during the British Rugby Football League ( RFL ) and the New Zealand Rugby League.

Rugby Union

A Test match in rugby union is a game that will be awarded at least one of the associations of the participating teams in the game " full international match status ". Unlike in cricket and rugby league, where there is an official definition of the term " Test Match " on the part of International Associations of these sports, is " Test Match " Rugby Union an unofficial, but widely used term. Similarly, there is the part of the International Rugby Board regulations concerning any of the "full international match status " or "Test status ", such as in Test cricket. Recognition as a Test Match is symbolized by the lending of Test caps ( short Caps, sometimes International caps) to the participating players.

The first Test match in rugby union was held in Edinburgh on March 27, 1871 between Scotland and England. This makes it the first test match ever to be played in one of the English team sports.

In Rugby Union, there are some national teams that represent no country whose games but are classified against other countries selections as test matches ( for example, the British and Irish Lions or the Pacific Islanders ). Also give some organizations the games between their teams and national teams ( such as the Barbarians ) the test status because these teams are the strongest possible team selection and a test match like Rugby League and cricket as the ultimate test of strength, skill and competence to be seen.

This gives the Caps is not bound to the recognition of a game as a test match by the Association of the opposing team. However, it is very rare that there is disagreement about the status of a game. The only remaining dispute over the status of games in the Rugby Union men's concerns Games between the New South Wales Waratahs and the New Zealand All Blacks who played in the 1920s wurden.Da at this time in Australia outside of New South Wales Rugby hardly Union was played, the ARU has the choice of New South Wales in retrospect given the status as the country selection and thus these games awarded test status and the affected players caps, while the NZRU this recognition denied to this day. Such a situation is now almost unthinkable in the context of professionalism in rugby union and the accompanying media coverage at the games.
