Tetrabutylammonium hydroxide ( TBAH ) is a strong base with the constitutional formula ( C4H9 ) 4N OH -. The quaternary ammonium compound is soluble in organic solvents, so that it can be dissolved in methanol used as a standard solution for anhydrous titration of very weak acids, such as phenols.

This methanol is first deprotonated, which is then used for the titration of phenol.
