Tetracosan (n- Tetracosan ) is a long-chain, unbranched and saturated alkane. It is one of the few organic compounds which occur as minerals in nature. This mineral is called Evenkit and was discovered in the area of the river Lower Tunguska in Siberia in 1953.
Description
Pure Tetracosan is colorless, but may accept by foreign admixtures yellowish green to yellowish- white color. It has the molecular formula C24H50 accordingly ( ( CH3) 2 (CH2 ) 22) and thus belongs to the hydrocarbons, more specifically to the chain- alkanes. The crystal system is monoclinic.
