Tetrameristaceae

The Tetrameristaceae are a plant family of the order of the heather -like ( Ericales ) with three genera and five species.

Description

There are shrubs or trees. The alternate and spirally arranged, short -stalked to sedentary leaves are leathery and easy. You may be asymmetrical. The leaf margin is usually smooth. Stipules are not available.

The flowers are in differently constructed inflorescences. The small, hermaphroditic flowers are radial symmetry and usually four or fünfzählig. They have a double perianth. There are four to five free calyx and petals free available. The flowers contain only a circle with four or five free, fertile stamens. Four or five carpels are fused to a constant above, syncarp nodes; it is a pen and a scar present. There shall be four or fünfsamige berries.

Genera

The family consists of three genera with five species:

  • Pelliciera Planch. & Triana ex Benth. & Hook. f, with only one type: Triana & Planch Pelliciera rhizophorae. , The home is the mangrove forests of northern South America, southern Central America and on the Galapagos Islands. This species has buttress roots and relatively large flowers. The fruits are dry.
  • Pentamerista neotropica Maguire
  • Tetramerista glabra Miq. Their wood is utilized.
