Properties

N, N, N ', N' -tetramethylethylenediamine is a flammable clear colorless liquid with an amine-like odor, which is readily soluble in water. It decomposes when heated, whereby nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide produced.

Use

Tetramethylethylenediamine (TMEDA ) is a polymerization catalyst. Therefore, it is for example used in conjunction with ammonium persulfate for the polymerization of acrylamide during the preparation of polyacrylamide gels.
