Teufenthal (Swiss German: Töüffetu, toe ʏf ː ː ə ˌ tʊ ) is a municipality in the district of Kulm in the canton of Aargau. It lies in the middle Wynental.

The church is not to be confused with Teuffenthal in the canton of Bern.

Geography

The hamlet is located at the bottom of a narrow, two-mile tributary valley of Wyna which extends in an easterly direction to the high level of Dürrenäsch. It is bordered to the north by the foothills of Surbergs on the south by the foothills of the High Rock. Only a small part of the village lies in the valley of the Wyna, the river forms the western boundary of the municipality.

The area of the municipality is 357 hectares, of which 154 hectares are forested and built over 61 hectares. The highest point is located on 630 meters on the Bampf ( a spur of Surbergs ), the highest at 438 meters at the Wyna.

Neighboring municipalities are Graenichen in the north, Seon in the northeast, Dürrenäsch in the east and in the south Unterkulm. The northeastern boundary point is the Siebenzwingstein.

History

Töfendal was first mentioned in 1173 in a letter of protection, the Emperor Barbarossa exhibited the Canons in Beromunster. The place name is derived from the Old High German (ze demo) tiufen tale, what "( the ) deep valley " means. In the Middle Ages, the village was in the territory of the Counts of Lenzburg, from 1173 in that the counts of Kyburg. After these had died out, the Habsburgs, the new rulers were in 1264. Owner of the lower courts were the masters of Trostburg which encircled it with the same name in the 12th century above the village.

1415 conquered the Swiss Aargau; Teufenthal now belonged to the subject territory of Berne, the so-called Bernese Aargau. 1528 resulted in the Bernese the Reformation. The Trostburg and the lower courts were in 1346 came into possession of the Lords of Rinach, 1486 at the Hallwyler. They sold their property in 1616 to the city of Brugg. In the second half of the 19th century, the population declined by about one-sixth. However, the decline was much less pronounced than in many neighboring communities. As of 1867, the tobacco industry was dominant for several decades. On March 5, 1904, the opening of the Wynentalbahn was. 1921 took the Foundry on their operation that characterizes the economic life of the community to this day. Between 1900 and 1970 the population tripled. Since then, however, it stagnates because land reserves in the small-scale community are largely developed.

Attractions

The village center is dominated by the coming of the 12th century Trostburg who is on a thirty meter high rock spur.

The blazon of the municipal coat of arms is: " In Yellow fallen blue lace with increasing yellow crescent, surmounted by fünfstrahligem yellow star. " The coat of arms was first mapped in 1811 on the municipal seal. The reverse peak indicates a deep valley between two mountains. The type of representation used today in use since 1953.

Population development:

On December 31, 2013 1605 people lived in Teufenthal, the proportion of foreigners was 24%. At the 2000 census, 54.8 % were reformed. 23.6% Roman Catholic, 10.3% Muslim; 1.7% belonged to other faiths. 85.7 % identified German as their main language, Serbo-Croatian 6.8%, 2.6% Italian, 2.2% Albanian.

Politics and Law

The Assembly of the voters, the municipal assembly, shall exercise the legislative power. Executive authority is the five-member council. Traffic

The village lies on the main road 23 from Aarau on Beromunster to Sursee. A secondary road leads over Dürrenäsch after Hallwil into Lake Valley. The connection to the public transport network is carried out by the Wynentalbahn that runs right next to the main road. From the bus stop Teufenthal from a bus line of the company Region Lenzburg to the station Boniswil - Seengen in the valley and on to Lenzburg.

Education

The municipality has a kindergarten and a primary school. All upper level of compulsory elementary school ( junior high school, middle school, school district ) can be visited in Unterkulm. The nearest district school (high school ) is located in Aarau.
