Tewfik Abdullah

Tewfik " toothpick " Abdullah (Arabic توفيق عبد الله ) ( born June 23, 1897 in Cairo, Egypt, † unknown) was an Egyptian footballer who spent most of his career in England and the United States.

Career

Abdullah played as a striker in the International Sporting Club in Cairo and was a member of the Egyptian national team that took part in the Summer Olympic Games in Antwerp in 1920. There he came in two games of the Egyptians used. Once there was a tight 1-2 against Italy in the first round, was beaten in the consolation round of Yugoslavia 4-2, reaching eighth place.

Abdullah remained in Europe and was hired in September 1920 after a trial, the first foreign player from Derby County. With the Rams, he played twelve games in the 1920/21 season, scoring a goal, but was relegated with the team in the second division. After a few games in the Football League Second Division, he moved to Cowdenbeath FC in the second Scottish league. After a season another club moving to Bridgend Town followed by Wales, before he returned in March 1924 to England and ran aground Hartlepools for United in the Football League Third Division North. There already at the cost he managed to score against Wrexham, in the end it was enough only for the penultimate place.

Then Abdullah left England and continued his career in the American Soccer League, where he played at the Providence Clamdiggers. In three years it brought on 62 missions and 24 goals for his team in the following years he was still active for the Fall River Marksmen, the Hartford Americans and the New York Nationals. The Marksmen he won the 1927 U.S. Open Cup, but in the final was not on the court. In the same year he was also in a selection of ASL, which was defeated by the national team of Uruguay with 2:4. His career ended in the Canadian Soccer League in Montreal Carsteel.
