Texa

Texas (Gaelic: Teacsa ) is a Scottish island. In Joan Blaeu's Atlas from 1654 the island's name is given as ylene Teghza.

Geography

The island lies 700 meters south of Islay, and about two kilometers southeast of Port Ellen ferry. It is thus part of the archipelago Inner Hebrides and belongs administratively to the Unitary Authority Argyll and Bute. Historically, Texas belonged to the county of Argyllshire. Texas extends over a length of 1.3 km in a north-easterly direction at a maximum width of 600 m. The highest point of the rocky island located in the northeast hills Ceann Garbh forms with a height of 48 m.

Colonization

As is apparent from census data from 1861, that a family of nine lived to Texas with the family Logan, the island is uninhabited today. On the remains of a Texa Texa Chapel are preserved above chapel and a cemetery. There is evidence that Texas is identical to the Oidecha of monastic writings. The Holy Kenneth ( Cainneach ), a companion of the Holy Columban, should have kept on his journey from Iona here.
