Texas (Band)

Texas is a British pop band. It was founded in 1986 in Glasgow ( Scotland) by Johnny McElhone. The band's name was taken over Paris, Texas by Wim Wenders the movie. Band History

Bassist John McElhone (formerly Altered Images and Hipsway ) founded the band in 1986 in his hometown of Glasgow. With singer Sharleen Spiteri, guitarist and drummer Stuart Kerr Alistair McErlaine the first line-up was complete. The first concert was Texas in March 1988 at the University of Dundee. Earlier contacts McElhone to Mercury Records led to a recording contract with the label. In January 1989, appeared with I Do not Want a Lover, the first single of the band, the eight place in the UK Top 40 reaching. The debut album Southside was published in March 1989 and has sold around two million copies worldwide. It was followed by a tour of Europe, and in July 1989, the release of the album in the USA.
