Texas International Airlines

The Texas International Airlines was a U.S. airline. The airline was founded in 1947 as " Aviation Enterprises and commencing Scheduled Service". On 31 October 1968, the name was changed to Texas International Airlines, based in Houston, Texas. Was the TIA time being active in Texas and the surrounding areas, the route network expanded now to cover cities in California, Louisiana, Tennessee, New Mexico and Mississippi.

1980 Texas Air Corporation purchased on the airline and started the beginning of 1981 to purchase shares of Continental Airlines. Even after six months, they had the majority of shares, so they took influence on their route network and flight schedules. On 31 October 1982 the two companies merged and flew under the name Continental Airlines.

Incidents

  • On 27 September 1973 Texas Airlines Flight 655 crashed on a flight from El Dorado to Texarkana. It was a controlled flight into Black Fork Mountain, which is one of the Ouachita Mountains in Arizona. The three-man crew and eight passengers were killed.
