Text REtrieval Conference

The Text Retrieval Conference ( TREC ) is a series of scientific conferences on information retrieval. These conferences are intended to support and promote research in the field of information retrieval. For this purpose, the infrastructure for a large-scale evaluation of information retrieval methods is provided. In addition, the transfer of technology should be accelerated.

The conference series is supported by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST ) and the Disruptive Technology Office of the Defense of the United States. It began in 1992 as part of the TIPSTER Text program.

Each conference consists of several tracks that deal with different problems. There is a competition for which the participating NIST groups provides data and test tasks for each track. After the results of the competition were evaluated, offers a workshop participants the opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas and presents current and future research areas.
