Teylingen

Teylingen is a Dutch municipality in the province of South Holland. It was formed on 1 January 2006 from the merger of the municipalities Lisse, Voorhout and Warmond. Teylingen is located just north of Leiden in the growing area for flower bulbs.

The name of the village is derived from the Teylingen castle, a ruin in the hamlet Teylingen.

A part of the municipal area consists of lakes, which are created by the former peat extraction: the Kagerplassen which also borders the municipalities Alkemade and Haarlemmermeer.

Sass Home

Sass home is an important industrial center. Among other things, here is a factory of Akzo Nobel. The flower bulb cultivation is almost completely gone. The name is derived from the Lisse word Saxony and Franconia local suffix home.

Voorhout

From Voorhout, the physician Herman Boerhaave (1668-1738) and the footballer Edwin van der Sar and Rob van Dijk come. Jacqueline lived and died in Voorhouter Castle Teijlingen.

Warmond

North of the town there is a castle ( Huis te Warmond ), which dates in its present form from the 18th century. From the old village church, the tower is left and a ruin, which is used as a cemetery. The church was destroyed in 1573 by residents from suffering because it offered the Spaniards protection. Warmond of death was the Deaf teacher Johann Conrad Ammann, a long time residence of the painter Jan Steen; Today it is the residence of the writer Maarten 't Hart.
