TGV 001

The TGV 001 was a high-speed railcars of SNCF. The Gasturbinenzug was manufactured in 1972 as a prototype for the TGV from Alsthom.

History

In December 1966 together with the industry, SNCF started the project C 03 " Possibilités ferroviaires sur infrastructures nouvelles " ( possibilities of the railway on new infrastructure ), which examined the investigation of high-speed traffic with powered gas turbine trains for passenger transport on new high-speed lines. For this purpose, ordered the SNCF in 1969 two prototype trains, the second should be equipped with an active tilting technology. The tilting - train was never built because of technical difficulties. On 24 March 1972, the five -piece train set TGV was completed in 001 Alsthom factory Belfort. April 4, 1972 to June 19, 1978, the vehicle was subjected to an extensive testing program with 5227 test runs. The speed was 318 km / h reached between Lamothe and Morcenx on the route Bordeaux - Irun on 8 December 1972. On the same stretch of the world speed record of 331 km / h was reached in 1955. From 1978, the pilot program was continued with the prototypes of the TGV PSE. 1983/84 the TGV 001 was again used to investigate problems with the secondary suspension of the TGV PSE.

Both power cars of the train were erected as a technical monument. TDU 001 is facing the TGV repair shop Bischheim, TDU 002 in Belfort and is clearly visible from the A36 Autoroute.

Technology

The trainset consists of two identical power heads, a car, 1st class, a test van and a car, 2nd class. The cars were connected by powered bogies of Jacob. In the power heads is each a cab, the propulsion system and a luggage room. The two seat cars are air-conditioned seating car. In 1st class the seats were arranged in the division 2 1, in 2nd class in the division 2 2.

The drive power was produced in two power heads by two Turbomeca TURMO III G - turbines, and later by powerful TURMO -X turbines. About a generator and a rectifier, the power was transferred electrically to the twelve traction motors.

As a service brakes rheostatic brake, eddy current brake, mounted on the drive shaft of the traction motors, and a hydro-pneumatic brakes were available. In addition, disposal of the train via a magnetic brake and a spring -loaded brake.
