Tha Song Yang District

Amphoe Tha Song Yang ( Thai อำเภอ ท่าสองยาง ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the province ( Changwat ) Tak in northern Thailand.

Etymology

Tha Song Yang is a landing place on the river, the two Yang - trees ( Dipterocarpus sp., Wing fruit crops) is surrounded. The name comes from the old district administration on the river, where there is a Yang - tree was located on each side of the river.

Geography

Amphoe Tha Song Yang is located in the extreme northwest of Tak province and borders the provinces of Mae Hong Son and Chiang Mai and Myanmar.

Amphoe Tha Song Yang is located in the extreme northwest of Tak province, bordering the north-west clockwise as seen at the Amphoe Sop moei in the province of Mae Hong Son, Amphoe Omkoi the province of Chiang Mai and Amphoe Mae Ramat in Tak province. History

Tha Song Yang was formerly a small district ( King Amphoe ) in the district of Mae Sariang ( Mae Hong Son province ) and was known at that time, Ban Mae moei ( บ้าน แม่ เมย ) or Ban Mae Tavo ( บ้าน แม่ ตะ วอ ). The district administration was in Tambon Tha Song Yang.

In 1948, the area was incorporated into the county Mae Sot, Tak Province. The following year, the district administration moved to the Tambon Mae Tan. Finally, Tha Song Yang in 1958 was upgraded to an Amphoe.

Mae La refugee camp

Mae La ( Maela ) is a refugee camp in Thailand. The camp was established in 1984 in Amphoe Tha Song Yang, Dawna Range in the area and currently hosts 30,000 refugees. The refugee camp is the largest Burmese refugee camp. About 90 % are ethnic Karen.

Attractions
