Thaddeus Betts

Thaddeus Betts ( born February 4, 1789 in Norwalk, Connecticut, † April 7, 1840 in Washington DC ) was an American politician of the Whig party.

After he had brought his schooling behind him, Betts made ​​in 1807 graduated from Yale College. He subsequently studied law, was admitted in 1810 to the bar and then began to work as a lawyer in his hometown of Norwalk.

Already 1815 Thaddeus Betts operated for the first time politically, than a year he belonged to the House of Representatives from Connecticut. Until his return to the chamber, however, it took 15 years: in 1830 he spent a further term in the House, before it became a deputy in the State Senate in the year.

In 1832 he was elected Vice- Governor of the State of Connecticut; after a year's break Betts in 1834 again elected to this office. Finally, he won the 1838 election for U.S. Senator and took office on March 4, 1839. But already in the following year died Thaddeus Betts in Washington. He was buried in his hometown of Norwalk.
