Thalpomys

The Cerrado mice ( Thalpomys ) are a living in South America rodent genus of the group of the New world. They consist of two types.

Cerrado mice reach a body length 8-11 cm, the tail is 4 to 7 centimeters relatively short. The weight is 13 to 40 grams. Their fur is yellow-brown at the top, mixed with black guard hairs, the underside is light brown.

These rodents are found only in eastern Brazil, where they primarily inhabit the Cerrado savannah landscape at altitudes 400-1300 m in the states of Minas Gerais and Goiás. The animals live on the ground. The reproduction falls in the rainy season from November to February, and the litter size is two to three pups.

There are two types, Thalpomys cerradensis and Thalpomys lasiotis. Both species are not threatened according to IUCN, this information is deprecated.
