Thane district

Thane (District) ( Marathi: ठाणे जिल्हा ) is located in the state of Maharashtra in India. The city is the capital of the eponymous Thane district. The last census in 2011 showed a total population of 11,060,148 people.

Population

The urban population accounts for 76.99 percent of the absolute population. A clear vast majority of the population are Hindus. The Muslims constitute more than 10 % of the population. A smaller minority are the Buddhists. In 2001, of 8,131,849 inhabitants, 6,506,337 Hindus ( 80.01 percent), 880 827 Muslims ( 10.83 percent) and 309,630 Buddhists (3.81 percent).

Strongest town inhabitants of the district is the capital Thane with well over a million inhabitants. A second metropolis is Kalyan - Dombivali. Other important cities with over 100,000 inhabitants are Navi Mumbai, Bhiwandi, Mira Bhayandar -, Ulhasnagar, Ambarnath, Nalasopara, Vasai - Virar and Navghar - Manikpur.
