Thanet

Thanet is a District in the county of Kent in England. It covers an area on the Thames Estuary, which is known as the Isle of Thanet. Council is based in Margate; significant sights are Birchington -on-Sea, Broadstairs, Manston, Ramsgate and Westgate-on -Sea.

The district was formed on 1 April 1974 and evolved from the merger of the Municipal Boroughs Margate and Ramsgate, Broadstairs and the Urban District St Peter's and part of Eastry Rural District.
