Thank You for the Music is a song by Swedish pop group ABBA, which to the fifth studio album by the group ABBA 1977 - The Album appeared. The piece was also included in 1978 on the B - side of the single Eagle and in 1983 again issued with the Our ​​Last Summer B-side as a separate single.

Creation and publication

The piece was written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus for the mini- musical The Girl with the Golden Hair, which consisted out of this song also from the three other songs I Wonder ( Departure ) I'm a puppet and Get on the Carousel. Already in the spring of 1977 Thank You for the Music was listed on ABBA's European tour in Australia in the context of the musical, but with a slightly different text than in the present version. At the time of the performances, there were no studio versions of these songs.

A first attempt to record the piece in the studio, took place on 2 June 1977. However, this first version presented the musician not satisfied, so another attempt was made on 21 July 1977 which eventually led to the final result. Thank You for the Music was mixed in November 1977. The verses were sung by Agnetha Fältskog, Anni-Frid in the chorus also Lyngstad is heard. In January 1980, the song was re-recorded as Gracias Por La Música in Spanish and published in March of the same year as the B - side of the single Fernando in Spain. In Argentina, Mexico and Uruguay Gracias Por La Música was released as A-side. Both singles were released to promote the eponymous album Gracias por la música, which was released on 23 June 1980.

Success

The original version of Thank You for the Music was first published in May 1978 as the B- side of the single Eagle that came in the top ten of the charts in four countries. In South Africa, Zimbabwe and Costa Rica, the song was released as the A side and reached the Top Five. The single release as an A- side of 1983, only four countries in the charts, including in France (# 58 ) and the UK (# 33). The Spanish version Gracias Por La Música with the B-side ¡ Dame! ¡ Dame! ¡ Dame! was much more successful, especially in the Latin American countries.
