The Allman Brothers Band

The Allman Brothers Band is a rock band from Macon, Georgia, in the southern USA. She is the first and also one of the most important bands of the Southern Rock. Your greatest successes they had in the early 1970s.

Career

Founded in 1969, the band originally consisted of Duane Allman (guitar), Gregg Allman (vocals, keyboards), Dickey Betts (guitar), Berry Oakley ( bass), Butch Trucks (drums) and Jaimoe Johanson Johanny ( percussion). The actual Allman Brothers Duane and Gregg, previously played in various groups, including the Escorts, the Allman Joys and Hour Glass last. As hourglass lost their recording contract, Duane Allman Brothers founded the band.

In 1969 they released their critically acclaimed but little -noticed debut album, The Allman Brothers Band. The second album Idlewild South (1970 ) was already a moderate success. The third album At Fillmore East (1971 ) brought the final breakthrough. A little later, Duane Allman died following a motorcycle accident.

The band finished the album Eat a Peach began with Duane. Chuck Leavell ( piano ) was added to the band. Following the publication of Eat a Peach and Berry Oakley died in a motorcycle accident not far from the place, had an accident on the Duane.

Lamar Williams replaced Berry. The next album, Brothers and Sisters appeared in 1973. It contained the now famous hits of the band, Ramblin 'Man and the instrumental Jessica. The live album, Wipe the Windows, Check the Oil, Dollar Gas came out in 1976.

Due to personal differences, the band drifted apart. Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts began solo careers. Gregg married Cher, and the same twice. Drug abuse took its toll. 1975 was the album Win, Lose or Draw. In 1976, the end of the tape after Gregg Allman had testified in a drug case against a band employee. Leavell, Johanson, and Williams founded Sea Level, while Betts worked on his solo career. It published several albums with previously unreleased recordings.

1978 there was a reunion of the band without Chuck Leavell and Lamar Williams, Dan Toler (guitar) as a new member. In 1979, the album Enlightened Rogues out.

The 1980s were lean years for the band. Only in 1989, the success came on again.

In 1995, the Allman Brothers Band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

On the LP / CD " Brothers and Sisters " acted as a second guitarist Dickey Betts and Les Dudek alongside with. He was also in some live performances here that ran after the record release. Les Dudek brought even some plates out, including Ghost Town Parade. His guitar playing was very close to the action of Duane Allman.

The most famous piece of the Allman Brothers, the instrumental Jessica, is the theme song of the British TV show Top Gear the BBC and is there since the beginning of the current format used (from 2002). However, these are not the original version of the Allman Brothers, but an abbreviated interpretation of no more than 20 seconds long. The piece is played at the beginning of a sequence to accompany the opening credits. In the 11th episode of the 6th season by one of the moderators ( James May ) has even tried to play the Top Gear Tune by engine sounds different motors at different speeds.
