The American Scholar (magazine)

The American Scholar is a quarterly magazine on the topics of politics, literature, science, history, and culture published by the Phi Beta Kappa Society since 1932. The title of the magazine refers to Ralph Waldo Emerson 's famous speech The American Scholar, which he delivered in 1837 before the Phi Beta Kappa Society at Harvard College. It is based on Emerson's ideals of independent thinking, self-knowledge and dedication to what is happening in the world as of books, history and science.
