The Ancient Economy (book)

The Ancient Economy ( The ancient economy ) is a book authored by the American classical philologist Moses Finley book on the economy of classical antiquity.

The ancient economy was first published in 1973. Finley is engaged in the ancient economy between 1000 BC and 500 AD Finley examines the economic sociological methods, not with economic models. Finley argues that the ancient economy was largely a by-product of social prestige. The analysis uses ideas of Max Weber and Karl Polanyi.

Finley looks at the ancient economic thought, wealth distribution, the role of the state, the function of slavery and the control system. To date, Finley's book is considered the most influential work on the ancient economy and his theories are still discussed today.
